By paying attention to the environment the Company is involved in the future of the region where its employees work and live. Creating an environmentally friendly enterprise is among our key priorities. Our main environmental focus is on the introduction of advanced technology, manufacturing process upgrades and environmental management.
Manufacturing process upgrades are aimed at reducing the environmental impact of production.
In 2009 Altai-Koks spent around 42 million rubles on various environmental protection projects aimed at reducing the impact of production on the environment. This allows the Company to ensure compliance with the permissible emission levels by maintaining equipment in standard technical modes.
Waste water is cleaned at the biochemical plant and the hydrochemical facilities and reused for manufacturing purposes, enabling us to reduce natural water use to a minimum. Surface water intake – from the Chumysh River – covers approximately 3% of the Company’s industrial water needs.
Hazardous waste management at Altai-Koks is regulated by a special corporate standard, “Waste Management Activities at Altai-Koks”. The enterprise has the only storage facility in the entire region which meets the technical and environmental requirements and is used for storing 3rd hazard degree waste. Altai-Koks uses liquid waste and heavy coal tar product recycling equipment, processing II and III hazard class waste into a secondary product for further use as an additive to raw materials.
Altai-Koks’ laboratory for ecological and technical supervision monitors the air in the city and the plant’s buffer zone and evaluates Altai-Koks’ impact on the surface and subterranean waters in accordance with the environmental protection legislation.
In 2007 Altai-Koks received a high rating for establishing an environmentally safe enterprise. The Company was awarded the Gold Medal for European Quality in the nomination Russia’s Top 100 - Ecology and Environmental Management, run by the International Academy of Quality and Marketing. Altai-Koks is consistently working on reducing the environmental impact of its operations, as well as on creating favorable living conditions for the population of Zarinsk. The Company uses coke gas for in-house power generation, covering 100% of the city’s needs.
In 2007 we started working on renewing the green belt bordering the residential zone. In 2009 efforts on reestablishing the green belt were continued. Furthermore, coniferous and deciduous trees were planted on the territory of the plant.
